But they can't.  It's like trying to explain to a lifelong thief that they
would do better if they just worked their way up the org chart.  Their
mentality just won't let them see it.

But that also requires them to have self-awareness - which they can't have. 
Mostly because that would require them to face up to the fact that they are not
nearly as smart and important at they want to believe.
