It's not only virtue signaling.  It's the fact that they have stopped thinking
for themsleves.  They are comfortable with the idea of letting someone else do
their thinking for them.

I can't remember how many times people threw the "Fauci is an expert and he
says... so I'm smart because I do what he says".

They are just ideologues.  Hence why they tend to be useless people.

they want, and ignore the inconvienent facts.
