These areas are not what I would call "gangland." One of the areas was industrial (maybe former). The beach/pier at Santa Monica, and the Long Beach waterfront are certainly not "gangland," either. The latter was really the only place I went where I would say I was a little worried about my safety, though, as I was only driving through the large-scale "encampment" areas. The issue they have going on goes beyond what other towns have. Mine has a few homeless people hanging about. If you go out of Los Angeles to the North along San Fernando, between LA and Weldon Canyon, you will run into miles of old RVs, trailers, and tents parked along the road on the other side of the RR tracks. Along Valley Blvd. running West out of LA, you will run into a similar, but less populated, situation. There was one other area... maybe San Bernardino... where there was also a very large encampment area but I don't remember for sure where. It is a much bigger problem there than in any large city in this area. I would not call the whole state a hell hole, either, but it contains its fair share of them. Like almost anywhere, I would throw any community that houses a lot of their politicians into that category, too. There were some places I went to -- mostly non-man-made places -- that I enjoyed seeing and made me glad I went. * SLMR 2.1a * Mainframe: the biggest PC peripheral you can buy. --- SBBSecho 3.14-Linux * Origin: capitolcityonline.net * Telnet/SSH:2022/HTTP (1:2320/105) .
