You're right. I'm looking back now, and there were actually 4 GOP candidates in that race: Lee Zeldin (hates gays,) Harry Wilson (former Obama employee,) Rob Astorino (former county exec,) and Andrew Guiliani (Rudy's son.)

Andrew Guiliani's dad was getting sued for something at the time (isn't he always getting sued?) so I thought that would ruin his son's chances.

Rob Astorino was probably the best candidate, but Lee Zeldin stole the spotlight by being a sitting GOP US Rep at the time. I'd like to think that either Astorino or Guiliani were a legit/non-RINO option, but who knows.
