The entire phrase (Matthew 7:1-6) makes that very clear.

It is comic humor at its best. Of course, Jesus said it in Aramaic,
which made it funny as hell. I mean, think about it. Jesus said this.
In the middle of the desert. To a whole bunch of other people. In the
middle of that same desert.

To judge the sin of others while ignoring your own is absurd as
criticizing someone with dust in their eyes, while your own eye is
impaled by a stick.

That is what is quoted in Matthew 7:3-4, explaining the kicker,
which you cited with 7:5 - at which point the entire crowd broke
out with laughter.
