Starting with your last question first, yes I do certainly remember that.

The assumption would be that NATO will still exist.  I feel at least a
little more confident that we could get some money back from them vs. back
from whatever Ukraine turns into after this.

That sentence is only a guess on my part.  Your guess is also a possible
scenario for sure.

If they genuinly believe that this investment destabilizes Russia, and that
this is a good thing, then maybe not.  Otherwise, I agree.
