That goes for "studies" and "research" as well.

Sadly, the do-not-call-list doesn't apply to political calls.  I'm not sure
about general poll calls.  I'm sure about telemarketer cold calls (not that it
stops anyone based on the number I still get).

Calling it a "gimmick" is correct.  That's just what it is: Propaganda to make
the gullible think that "everyone" is thinking a certain way.
