If you ask him for examples, he will very rarely give any and will often
claim it is your responsibility to find the references that prove his point.

Makes me wonder how debate classes are taught in that area.

Teacher:  "And what case/article do you base you position on?"

Student:  "Because I said so!  It is your job to figure out my references.
But here are a few that prove a point I was not originally making."

Teacher:  "That is the strongest debate stance I have ever witnessed!  A+!"
