I've never gotten election day off.

Well, I can't say that.  40+ years ago, when my Jr. High was used as a polling
place, we got the day off.  But I was too young to vote then.

But most employers will tell their employees that they can come in late or
leave early on Election Day to get to the polls - if their normal work
schedules don't allow for it.

Seeing how the polls stay open for 12 hours, I don't see where most people
would have a problem getting there.  And every polling place that I've seen has
allowed anyone in line before the polls close still vote even if it's after the
polls have officially closed.
