Yup.  There's a good use for a mask.  But it's keeping out... let's call it
wood dust particles.  A few orders of magnitude larger than a microorganism. 
Significantly larger than, say, oxygen.  So such masks would allow you to
breathe without a problem, while still protecting your lungs.

And you only wear them while working on the saw, not all day.
