Yes, in the case of this echo.

Unlike other bees, drones may be somewhat apathetic.  They are only bred by
the workers for mating with the queen. I have never had any impression that
they contribute anything else to the hive and, once one is chosen to mate, the
others are killed and, IIRC, the one that mates is also killed once that is
over.

I doubt they have much time for caring about the health of the hive.
