Yup.  Standard Elitist tactic: misdirection.
Get people to focus on a meaningless topic so they will ignore the meaningful
ones.

In this case, they want people to forget how badly the Ignorant Elite screwed
people over during the scamdemic, how prices keep going up, etc.

It will work, but only for the Ignorant Elite.  But those people can't think
for themselves anyway.
