Subj : Understanding electricity companies in the rest of the world To : Aaron Thomas From : Bj”rn Felten Date : Wed Jul 13 2022 14:24:15 AT> This is another case of mom's basement syndrome: stuff isn't the same AT> everywhere. I know what you're talking about because my electric company AT> (NYSEG) offers a daytime rate and a night time rate. But other electric AT> companies (like PNM) don't do that; they charge the same rate no matter AT> what time it is. (What works for Bjorn doesn't work for everyone.) What *only* works for Aaron, isn't the way it works for most of the rest of the world, or even rest of the USA. You see, Aaron, the company that bills you for your electricity is almost never the same company that produces it. So when your company buys the electricity from the suppliers of it, they almost always have to buy it at spot prices -- usually on the minutes. Then your electric company chooses to bill you by the hour, buy the day or even by the month -- taking the average price over the period. AT> "All over the world!" <- You're funny! You should say "All the AT> receptacles in mom's basement." Yeah, I know. I should have said all over the free world. The world where you do not allow monopolies, so we have lots of suppliers to choose from. I for instance can choose from more than 50 (there's actually a lot more, but the rest are way to expensive). How many do you have to choose from, in that Paradise Freedom of yours? BTW, the same goes for internet. But there I have just 30 or so providers to choose from. How many do you have to choose from, in that Paradise Freedom of yours? That's how it's done out here in Leftist Socialist Slavery Hell, where We the People own the infrastucture, and also via democratic (no gerrymandering, no Electoral College, no filibuster, not even a Senate) elections make sure we have absolutely no corruption (like bribes renamed to donations). Our infrastructure is open to any company, public and private alike, welcome to compete on equal terms. That's what *true* capitalism means -- nothing like your Corporate Capitalism, that is all about bribing the right lawmakers. ... --- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; sv-SE; rv:1.9.1.16) Gecko/20101125 * Origin: news://eljaco.se:4119 (2:203/2) .
