At some point they raised it to 18.  OTOH, here you could buy cigs at just
about any age.  I remember going to the store on the corner to buy a
carton of unflitered Camels for my grandparents, and an ice cream treat
for myself.  I was probably around 10 or 11.  They didn't know if I was
going to smoke them myself or not.
