I don't recall any missing "first line" in my Sempoint-usage days.   I  
know that I either used Fmail or Fastecho back in the day.

Since JAM is broken in SEM, I probably just used the "default" Squish, so  
that rules out Fmail.

..: I probably I used FastEcho, and its corresponding FASTECHO.CFG.   I'll  
give it a go with FastEcho and see what develops.

I *do* recall a very smooth point/node setup with SEM.  So, I never  
encountered the many issues you found with the alternative .CFG files and/ 
or JAM format.
