Well I know Synchronet will do this but I'm chatting with the author of the
ax.25 plugin now, in the hope I can perhaps suss something out along the same
lines for Mystic :-)

I'm using an ICOM 2720 and thinking back a year or so ago I 80% sure I played
around with soundcard packet and using a custom cable to drive the ICOM...
will have to have a look.
