There are country tables available for this. The commercial firewall appliance we use at work has a special configuration page for this. (This used to be an extra option you would have to buy if you wanted to use it, but it became free in the last version)

Blocking China for instance would result in (a lot) smaller log files for your services. I see a lot of scan/hack attempts from Chinese IP addresses...
