Subj : Weekly nodelist report on noteworthy changes (148) To : Michiel van der Vlist From : Matthias Hertzog Date : Sat Jun 26 2021 07:04:16 Hello Michiel! MV> Not every issue is revealed by lab test. Some rare and unforeseen MV> combinations of circumstances only emerge in the field. I know what I MV> am talking about. I agree on that. But having done a lab test before a rollout is thill a great idea. There always will be some unexpected side-effects, but the goal is to keep them a few as possible. MV> Anyway, allowing customers to buy and connect their own equipment is MV> laid down in an EU directive. So sooner or later providers in the EU MV> will have to comply. Arguing that it gives serious problems is a MV> rearguard battle because it turns out to not be a serious problem in MV> other countries. CH is not member of the EU for now. That rule is not in place here - yet. MH>> Latest twist at the site where my fidonet installation resides: MH>> The ISP is upgrading the 1gig to 10gig for free. I really wonder MH>> how they still make money. MV> It will probably cost them very little because few are actually using MV> that much bandwith... Without regarding at the backhaul, this is true. Interestingly, the said company (Init7) is about to sue the incumbent (swisscom) about their low-price offerings. That's interesting, as Init7 undercut all prices for years. And now as one has undercut thiers with a time limited offering, they try to carry that into the courts. Funny thing is, that the day after they publicly announced that they want to carry out this fight in court, two other competitors undercut Init7's price as well. We're talking about CHF 49.00/month for 10gig. Crazy. I'd never expected Init7 to fight for higher prices. But then: What's impossible in times where you have to pay the bank to store your money... Everything seems to be turned upside down. Matthias --- GoldED+/W64-MSVC 1.1.5-b20180707 * Origin: MHS Systems (2:301/1) .
