Subj : Weekly nodelist report on noteworthy changes (148) To : Matthias Hertzog From : Michiel van der Vlist Date : Sat Jun 19 2021 09:18:03 Hello Matthias, On Friday June 18 2021 08:51, you wrote to me: MV>>>> If the modem/router adheres to DOCSIS standards, as laid down MV>>>> and certified by CableLabs or its European deputy, that should MV>>>> be no problem. MH>>> Right, it should not be. But it is not always. I once was part MH>>> of an emergency rollout after a tiny network change. No happy MH>>> times. MV>> That can also happen with equipment issued by the ISP. MH> No, because an ISP can test a change with all the known (own) MH> equipment in the lab prior to the rollout. Not every issue is revealed by lab test. Some rare and unforeseen combinations of circumstances only emerge in the field. I know what I am talking about. Anyway, allowing customers to buy and connect their own equipment is laid down in an EU directive. So sooner or later providers in the EU will have to comply. Arguing that it gives serious problems is a rearguard battle because it turns out to not be a serious problem in other countries. MH> Latest twist at the site where my fidonet installation resides: The MH> ISP is upgrading the 1gig to 10gig for free. I really wonder how they MH> still make money. It will probably cost them very little because few are actually using that much bandwith... Cheers, Michiel --- GoldED+/W32-MSVC 1.1.5-b20170303 * Origin: Nodelist Police Station (2:280/5555) .
