Subj : Weekly nodelist report on noteworthy changes (141) To : Nodelist Police Commissioner From : Michiel van der Vlist Date : Mon May 24 2021 15:16:57 Hello Nodelist, On Monday May 24 2021 13:40, you wrote to me: MvdV>> From netmail with one of the sysops with the link local MvdV>> address, I understand that ddns.net is unable to handle the MvdV>> situation that a host name has only an AAAA record. NC> It would be better to not use ddns.net at all, Saying goodbye to ddns.net is what I would have done. IPv6 is not something that was invented yesterday. Any DNS provider that has not fixed IPv6 issues yet, deserves to go belly up. NC> and just put the IPv6 in the nodelist. Ah, you mean just do away with DNS alltogether and just list the literal IPv6 address. If is is a static address that woukd indeed be a workable solution. In fact, many years ago I DID vote with my feet when a MvdV>> DNS provider could not properly deal with IPv6 (Starthosting) NC> Indeed. It should be a temporary situation I hope, until they fix NC> it... From what I understand, this IS the fix. Before that it was not possible to have an IPv6 address when you have an IPv4 address. It was either one, but not both. Now it is IPv4 only or IPv4 + IPv6. But not IPv6 only. :( MvdV>> In the meantime, I suggested adding the INO4 flag and I see MvdV>> that my suggestion has been followed in 50% of the cases... ;-) NC> Btw: Did you get an explanation for the identical /64 on all the NC> nodes? No, I did not bring that up yet... Cheers, Michiel --- GoldED+/W32-MSVC 1.1.5-b20170303 * Origin: Nodelist Police Station (2:280/5555) .
