I think most people don't know the details, and just put XA in the list. :-(

In the Z2 nodelist epilog (http://many-glacier.dyndns.org/nodelist/NODELIST.066), there is a nice table for these flags.

And you should know, when a node is IBN only it can only support the WaZOO protocol. That narrows it down a lot! And leaves only XW and XX, and the choice comes down to the implementation details of the freq processor used by a node.
