Subj : Weekly nodelist report on noteworthy changes (238) To : Marc Lewis From : Michiel van der Vlist Date : Wed Aug 31 2022 12:21:57 Hello Marc, On Saturday August 27 2022 13:49, you wrote to me: MvdV>> The main reason I dropped Irex is that it did not support IPv6 MvdV>> and it was never going to be updated. ML> My system is still (and probably will always be IPv4) [regrettably, I ML> think.] Thus far it hasn't presented a problem in that respect. In the US and Canada, IPv4 exhaustion may not be a serious problem for a while but in some parts of the world ISPs were forced to stop issuing a public IPv4 address to consumers. There simply aren't enough IPv4 adresses to give everyone an address of its own. If they want to run servers, they will be IPv6 only. It is only a matter of time before the transitionto IPv6 affects every node in Fidonet. There already are a handfull of IPv6 only nodes in the nodelist. If you want to connect to them, you need IPv6.
