So "true" ISDN still exists in Germany? Here in The Netherlands ISDN and analog telephony are history. It is all VOIP now. You can not have a "fixed" telephone line any more without having an internet connection as well. As consequence Fidonet in The Netherlands is IP only. There are still a few points but they also connect via binkp only.

Indeed why not, but for how long? If the infrastructure no longer supports ISDN or analog POTS than it will be Fido over IP or nothing for those points running legacy hardware.
