No it isn't.  According to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Hardware_detection, 
"There is a kernel configuration option called CONFIG_GENTOO_LINUX only present 
in sys-kernel/gentoo-sources and other Kernel Project maintained kernels."  The 
source I have comes from kernel.org and does not show any of the special 
CONFIG_GENTOO config options.

So far I am either missing something or the intel 915 needs more work.  The AST 
based graphics works fine in both 4.x and 5.x kernels which is the one that 
gives me 8 penguins.  I don't ever plan to put a graphics card on there despite 
it having issues playing video files other than older mpeg's and the such.  
Speaking of which I tried using ffmpeg's builtin h265 (libx265) and that works 
except the resulting h265 is HUGE.  It played fine with mplayer using the 
fbdev2 on the console.  ;-)

No I am not lying.  I've never owned a cellphone either.  I have used radio and 
satellite phones way back when but have never owned either of those.  As we 
speak I do have a landline which is mostly an annoyance.

Nope.  I might look at slackware's 5.x config first to see if I missed 
something in mine.  I booted a slackware live on usb and they are using a 5.x 
kernel on there that gives me penguins on the inteldrmfb.  Given that slackware 
uses the same kernel source that I am I figure I am missing something in my 
kernel config wrt inteldrmfb graphics.

Yes.  It loads the inteldrmfb just fine but no penguins ... yet.  Also I have 
penguins on a 4.19.x kernel using inteldrmfb but haven't tried that on a usb 
boot yet.  One step at a time.
