Every BBS package I've run (GT Power under dial-up, then DS> Synchronet and Virtual Advanced) has required a nodelist to do DS> netmail. Synchronet does not, and has never required a nodelist for anything. Synchronet only requires you setup your sbbsecho.cfg (or echocfg as a GUI) properly. It's basically a route table of sorts. It's probably your mailer that requires that nodelist, but Synchronet doesn't at all. He probably set up his "mailbox" or "filebox" as the same directory as the outbound directory. That's usually the only way you will start receiving the ..?lo, .try, .bsy/.csy etc files - which is of course the wrong way to setup a BSO mailer.
