The preferred way is to setup both A and AAAA records for your system in DNS, and then list the domain name in you nodelist entry.  That allows IPv4 nodes to use the A record address, IPv6 nodes to use the AAAA record address, and dual stack nodes can choose either one.  As an example, check out phoenix.bnbbbs.net:

mbse@chlnn01:~$ host phoenix.bnbbbs.net
phoenix.bnbbbs.net has address 71.234.229.39
phoenix.bnbbbs.net has IPv6 address 2001:4830:1100:2bf::2
mbse@chlnn01:~$
