Since you're running linux please see /etc/gai.conf. That file controls how getaddrinfo() returns IP addresses when resolving FQDNs, i.e. if you prefer IPv6 or IPv4.

There is a very simple method: FQDNs ;-) My FQDN returns an IPv4 and an IPv6 address.
