 with four grandchildren. The wan side of the router is a wifi network for
 the whole premises, and I am sure I am not the only user there.

 I only edit domain files under such circumstances when it is really
 neccessary.

 This is the current lag through my VPN tunnel to the host that hold the
 dns domein files.

 Have you tried to reset de DNS forwarder on your WRT router?
