You have no control over the TTL in the DNS entry?

I usually set the TTL for (semi)static entries to one day. But if I foresee a change I set it to one hour one or two days before the change.

You may want to set the TTL for Joe's entry to one hour or shorter because more changes are to be expected in the foreseeable future.
