Subj : Error 404 with IPv6 enabled To : David Drummond From : Michiel van der Vlist Date : Tue Jul 05 2016 20:29:55 Hello David, On Wednesday July 06 2016 02:26, you wrote to Richard Menedetter: DD> I get a 404 using Google Chrome Version 51.0.2704.103 on Win10. IPV4 DD> only. Try oudvanenburg.vandekraats.com. It redirects to http://www.vandekraats.net/oudvanenburg on IPv6. In IPv4 it dows not redirect. DD> If I truncate the oudvanenburg/ I get a site with photos of little DD> girls. What sort of site is this???? It is the family foto album of the sun of my old friend Jan van de Kraats. The girls are his ganddaughters. His son has also hosted some articles about the history of the area where my friend lives. Last Saturday when he was here, he wanted to show me the articles. To my surprise, we got that 404 on my computer. We tried Rosa's computer and bingo. So what was the difference bewteen my computer and hers? IPv6! Immidiately I got some sneers to the effect of: "see, IPv6 sucks". But as it turns out it is not a bug in IPv6, it is not a misconfiguration on my side, it is a misconfigured web site. Sadly it is incidents like this that give IPv6 a bad name. :-( Cheers, Michiel --- GoldED+/W32-MSVC 1.1.5-b20130111 * Origin: he.net certified sage (2:280/5555) .
