Not just that, the Linux version has a problem with the DNS resolver running under the newer kernels. It works when you feed it raw IP numbers, but it won't resolve host names.

I think you overrate me. I may get the basics in a few days, but sureley converting all of my system from FD style to BT style and correct the errors made in the process will take more than that...
