All of which are irrelevant to me. ;)  Though it is an election year here too,
but we don't go through all the crap you guys do. :)  However, the ISPs here
seem to be dragging their feet too.

Which is protocol and configuration dependent (e.g. for SSH, whether keepalives
are enabled and at what interval).  In many cases, the timeouts are longer than
the modem reconnect time.
