Subj : IPv6/4 indicator To : Bj”rn Felten From : Michiel van der Vlist Date : Sun Jun 19 2011 23:00:04 Hello Bj”rn, Sunday June 19 2011 01:32, I wrote to you: MV> I have added a gadget to the English version of the home page of my MV> website to let visitors see if they connect via IPv6 or IPv4. Hmm.. I just discovered this does not work as expected. If you go to www.vlist.org, you will get the "connected via IPV6" if your browser supports IPv6. Which is correct. www.vlist.org has an AAAA record. If you go to www.vlist.eu/index_en.htm, it will also tell you you are connected via IPv6. This is incorrect, there is no AAAA record for www.vlist.eu. What happens is that you connect with IPv4, but the image of the button is fetched from ipv6-test.com using IPv6. So all the button indicates is that you connect to ipv6-test.com via IPv6, it says nothing on how you connect to a web page that includes the code for the button.... :-( All that the button on your website tells me is the MY browser and MY internet connection are IPV6 capable. It says nothing about your side. And vice versa of course. I was going to add the button to all my web pages, but after this discovery I shelved it. I posted a message in the ipv6-test.com forum to report this, but aparently messages of newly registered users have to be moderated first. Bit of a bummer... :-( Cheers, Michiel --- GoldED+/W32-MINGW 1.1.5-b20070503 * Origin: 2001:470:1f15:1117::1 (2:280/5555) .
