Dunno where you found the term 'Walkie Talkie' but hand-helds are called
Handie Talkies.

Walkie talkies used inthe WW II were back pack units carried by one or
two men depending on size and weight of the units. The battery pack was
in the second back pack.

Handie talkies were hand-held units, usually running on 30 MHz on
internal batteries.

You see, I was born before the WW II and therefore know the terms.
