Ah OK ... then Gossiped translates LATIN-1 correctly.
Then I provided both LATIN-1 and UTF-8 Testmessages ;)

The issue is I had it configured to use LATIN-1 if not told otherwise, and I 
forgot about it.
Then I changed the configfile in the wrong location. (gossiped changed the 
location, and I forgot that ...)
