Subj : incoming from Telegram To : Kurt Weiske From : August Abolins Date : Thu Nov 19 2020 03:50:14 On 11/16/2020 2:54 AM, between "Kurt Weiske - Stas Mishchenkov": > This is an example of how some of these Telegram messages look on the > Fidonet side. How is this an improvement, again? The "empty" messages with just a link are not good. The process employed at TgBBS is still quite new. Improvements are coming. Stas built a whole FTN tosser in a few weeks to accommodate the transfers. I had to learn how to actually add a caption to a shared photo so that the text would accompany the link. Any Telegram specific tags (eg. stickers) can be disabled. > My BBS environment is intentionally separate from the web. The joy I > receive from BBSing is specifically because of the lack of likes, > links, and forwarded content. I want to read what people are thinking, > not what they're clicking on. I don't think I haven't seen an echo that has never had a link in it to either some article or even to another bbs landing page over the decades. The taglines and origin lines are regularly filled with http:// links. How is that "intentionally separate from the web"? Sometimes a picture can express a thought much better than a lengthy message. An http:// link to a photo can be part of that discussion. It would certainly be nice if that same message could provide context at the same time. But the presence of a message with just a link should not flash thoughts of horror and indestictiveness from the web. Links and URLs are a normal thing to provide when writing a message. > If there's a way to share the concepts, ideas and content of Fidonet > through alternative means, I'm all for it. But keep what makes FTN > unique. The TgBBS process is an attempt to grow and draw attention to Fidonet. What exactly is the uniqueness that you speak of?
