There's a new ZC1 ... Nick Andre. That means Janis did vacate the job. Janis ascended to that office in 2001, already 17 years ago, and decided to walk a different path. 17 years in Fidonet, that makes her the second longest serving ZC and that means something. There are several ways these 17 years could be approached ... Janis and I butted heads a couple of times but in the end we both understood that we were trying to do a job with the best of interest of the sysops in our mind. Some may not really believe it but I bear no hard feelings, even for the less pleasant moments. When you are at the point in life where I am, then every minute spent in anger is a minute lost. When you needed her, she always was just one netmail away and she would respond. I've had a particular difficult moment more than 10 years ago where I figured everything was technically lost and ready to abandon. Little known to many, and perhaps not really understood by herself, but Janis coached me back. Kudos, Janis, and thank you for a job well done. In order that this doesn't sound a bit as an obituary ... we haven't lost her yet. Janis is staying on as a regular sysop, as an operator in the Filegate distribution and as a counselor whenever her services are needed. As for her successor, Nick Andre. A technically well versed sysop, one of a handful of major developers still active in the net and I'm certain his expertise will not be lost on the ZCC. I've worked with him for close to a decade and a half, so far he hasn't tried to kill me yet and that means a lot. A special word also for the runner-up in the ZC1-election … Dallas Hinton. Dallas and I met over the net years ago and I would have been quite satisfied with him as a ZC as well. He would have done a fine job. But as it is with elections, there is only 1 winner.
