I figured it out, Mr Teacher. :|

I copied the smilie from the tgm interface, pasted it in a new  
document using Notepad++, then I opened the document with a  
hex editor.

We could roll out a little scavenger hunt/contest. Can you  
tell which smilie this one is?:  f0 9f 98 87
