Running well for years here. But it's more like a point system, no high

This looks like a filesystem or disk problem.

That's the index files. Those can be rebuild if the *.sqd is not damaged.

Lastread Pointer file for BBS and Editor. Can be deleted with the side effect 
that all mail will be show as new to the users.

If you want to change check that all tools that you use are capable of dealing 
with jam base.
