Granted, you cannot pay for groceries with a cheque, but I can pay my other bills and my landlord with one if so desired... but I almost always use on-line banking. I actually somehow doubt that anyone can just withdraw funds from an American account with the account/routing number like what has been mentioned here. Theres primitive, and then theres just plain outright stupidity; the amount of fraud and laundering must be the highest in the world.
