I announced this Monday that the RCs should start an election in Zone 1 for my replacement. They are working on this as I type, thanks guys! Hopefully, they will see it the same way I do... that all sysops in Zone1 should be given the opportunity to be nominated if they care to be... and nominations and votes should be collected from every sysop in Zone 1, not just the RCs. My RCs are an exceptional bunch and I am so very grateful that they've been my right hand the entire time I've been Zone1 Coordinator, but for something like the position of Z1C, I feel it's better to involve everyone in Zone 1. You may not have been around when I was elected Z1C so many years ago... it's been that many years (2001). At the time, it was the way things were done... if one is concerned about the number of people voting in this, just think for a moment about the number of sysops that were involved in that election in 2001 :) One site I checked today said that in mid-2001 Fidonet had approximately 15K nodes - granted that was all zones, but given that other zones were somewhat smaller than Zone 1 way back then, it is at least clear that our numbers in Zone 1 were much larger than today's numbers listed in the current nodelist. There are a few reasons I'd like to see this election involve "everyone" in the nomination/election process: 1) What better way is there to wake people up? (grin) 2) When people are directly involved, they participate. 3) When the selection process if open to all members, who knows what gem may be discovered? When I was elected, I was a general "nobody" in the great scheme of all things "Fido".. sure I could route Netmail, and had taken over the PDN from Erik van Riper, but as far as other jobs I'd held, I believe I'd been an NC for a short time, and then an REC (Regional Echomail Coordinator) when we lived in Louisville.. that's it. You don't really know everyone in Fidonet or their capabilities unless you give them the chance to show those capabilities. Ok, JMHO (grin) So, right now among other things, I'm looking forward to not having to make nodelists, update web pages, etc. etc. etc. While most of what I do is automated, one still has to check the results now and again to make sure the beast is under control.. that freedom from the overall baby-sitting of my system will be a welcome relief... so much so that I can even start thinking about getting some programming done FIDOGAZETTE Vol 12 No 17 Page 3 April 25, 2018 ----------------------------------------------------------------- --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Toy-3 * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38) .
