Back then, I paid $400 a semester, $100 for books, and $20 for a 1 year parking permit. Each fall, the local college, the University Of Arkansas At Little Rock (UALR), has a campus wide picnic at the Bailey Alumni Center (I'm a Life Member of the UALR Alumni Association). In the past it had been hamburgers with all the trimmings, but this past year, it was pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. I had to miss it one year, as I was prepping for a colonoscopy the next day, and I hated that!! With it being August now, fall classes aren't that far away, so I need to find out when it will be. Anyway, I was at one of those recently, and talking to several very pretty female students (they were at least 35 years younger than me), and I told them what I paid. They lamented "I wish it was like that for us", and I asked what they paid per semester. When they replied "$9000", I felt like Fred Sanford "It's the big one, Mabel!!". :P I asked why so much, and they said "Dorms"...to which I admitted, that'll do it. When I was there nearly 40 years ago, it was strictly a commuter campus...no dorms. Now, there are dorms all over the place. Living at home, and working at Burger King put me through school. Every year when I do my rent recertification, they ask me if I'm a student. I reply that "the only exams I'm involved with now are administering amateur radio license exams (which I'm accredited to do), and medical related exams".
