    FileFind - The Fido Search Echo

    This is a JFYI type article... we have a number of new/returning
    sysops so I figured it can't hurt to cover this :)

    We have a message echo area in Fidonet named 'FILEFIND` where
    folks can query other systems' ALLFIX programs or other systems'
    archie-type function when you are looking for a file one may
    need or want.  Other fidonet systems that support this will
    respond to your request with information regarding found files.

    The way you use this echo is to post a message in the FILEFIND
    message echo addressed to ALLFIX with the file you are looking
    for in the Subj: line with a "/":

    From: Janis Kracht
    To: Allfix
    Subj: /FIDO
    ===
    [body can be blank]

    BBBS supports this function, and it works great!

    NetMail area!

    AllFix request is a simple way to find
    a specific file(s) from remote systems
    by using wildcards or keyscan.
    The structure of a message to
    AllFix is very simple. The message must
    be addressed to AllFix. The
    subject line must contain a list of
    file specifications or keywords.
    Keywords must be enclosed within double
    quotes and/or started with dash
    character. You can put more than one
    word within the quotes.

    For example, in the following message,
    Super Luser is looking for the latest
    version of BBBS and a help file.

    =====================================================
       AllFix=area message #42
        from SUPER LUSER to ALLFIX.
       Entered on 18th November, 1993 at
       12:41, 1 lines.

       Subject: bbbs* "help file"
       ==========================

       Just looking for...
       ==================================================


       The message text (body) is ignored.
       BBBS recognizes messages addressed
       to ALLFIX, BROBOCOP, FILEMGR and
       ARCHIE.

       Please note that when user is
       looking for file snip* and keyword
       snip, the same file will be reported
       twice.

       To disable AllFix scan for certain
       file directory use "@r:all" flag in
       the filedir* file. AllFix does not
       belong to the "all" group!

       If you enable both AllFix and
       NameFix in the same area
       and BBBS receives a message
       addressed to BRoboCop, both files
       and users are checked.

    So, if you don't carry the message echo FILEFIND, turn it on :)

    If you are running Allfix or a compatible file echo manager that
    supports archie-type searches, chances are your bbs will support
    this handy function.
