IIRC, actual stink bait is some kind of concoction that is actually used as
bait to catch bottom feeders like catfish.  I am not a fisherman, but a
friend of mine was.  I am sure what is in it but my only experience with it
told me that the name was accurate.  :)

I have also heard that term used to indicate unusually awful "bait" used by
a usenet troll.
