A Harvard project aims to spray MILLIONS of tonnes of CHALK into the stratosphere - to REFLECT sunlight and hopefully slow GLOBAL WARMING. 

Harvard University experts will test the project?s potential by sending a large balloon 12 miles above the Swedish town of Kiruna- before dropping 2kg of chalk dust into the stratosphere, possibly as soon as June this year.

Scientists will then monitor how the dust particles interact with the atmosphere.  

Experts have warned that the experiment could have DISASTEROUS consequences, including extreme shifts in weather patterns, according to Daily Mail.

Billionaire Bill Gates is funding the project through his Fund for Innovative Climate and Energy Research.
