Awhile ago you wrote in a message to All: ak> What do the Englishmen draw in drawing rooms? Why do ak> you call it "drawing room"? ;-) I'd been having such a wonderful time with your second question that I almost missed the first... but then I remembered a series of children's books by US author Peggy Parish about a maid(servant) named Amelia Bedelia. Amelia's employers often leave written instructions which she misunderstands, apparently because she doesn't realize certain words may have more than one meaning. IIRC she makes a sketch of the bathtub, e.g., when told to "draw a bath". I reckon we could all have a wonderful time with this idea too. One wouldn't bathe in the sort of Victorian "drawing room" which is uppermost in my mind. One might draw conclusions, or draw attention to oneself, or draw others into a conversation. I'll leave it to my readers to add examples here.... ;-) --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+ * Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver CANADA (1:153/716) .
