    Although, I am not sure that it good to mix different times in one 
sentence. Probably, I should write all the sentence either in the 
present (and then the woman makes her way and sees...), or in the past 
(she made her way and saw...).

    As for me, I tried to write it in the present. But when I tried to 
make it funny I used 90% of brain for it, and only 10% for checking 
grammar. ;=) That's why I wrote "see" instead of "sees". So, my nearest 
task is to learn how to share my brain recourses more equally. Although, 
the remedy is well known -- a person should speak often and learn to use 
the proper Grammar automatically.
