I'd add a coma after boring and drop the word 'when' from the sentence.
Also change the word 'any' to 'another'.

add another ingredient.

Soup making is a lot of fun (and work) for the chef and those who may
be gathered around the kitchen. Laughing ominously, aka an evil chucle, as
you add more ingredients can be amusing.
