In "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," by Rowling
I read:

    The house seemed to contain three tiny rooms. Two doors  led  off
the main room, which served as kitchen and living room  combined.

AFAIR "kitchen" is a countable noun. Why we cannot see an article in
front of it?
