          Ah.  I gather you have an alternative source where you can track down 
echomail which has fallen into the bit bucket somehow, as do I... [grin].

P.S.

          Thanks to your recommendation, and to your plot summary... akin to my 
own "1066 & All That" style of explaining the history of this weird & wonderful 
language... Dallas & I ordered a copy of the TV series THE ADVENTURE OF ENGLISH 
as a family Christmas gift to ourselves.  I'm quite looking forward to it.  :-)
